Hey brow lover!

Do you know that Supercilium Brow Henna is a unique henna eyebrow tint, based on the purest and finest henna from India and latest on hair for up to 6 weeks and lasts on skin for up to 2 weeks!

Where does henna come from?

Henna comes from the plant Lawsonia Inermis, also known as the henna plants. This plant is a small flowering plant that grows in tropical climates such as Africa and Northern Asia. While its flowers are often used to produce perfume, its leaves contain a useful staining pigment called lawsome (also known as hennotannic acid), in various hues from burnt orange, to deep red.

To create henna paste for skin, henna powder extracted from the plant will be mixed with essential oil, sugar etc. Henna is a beautiful, natural product that has been used for ages.

The art of applying henna on human body has been practiced in India, Africa, and the Middle East for millions of years.

Henna & eyebrow hair dye

Due to its magnificent staining power, henna can also be used as a natural alternative to synthetic hair dyes.

Henna has been treated as a healthier, and more natural substitution to chemical dyes for hair/eyebrow hair coloring. The fun fact about henna dye is that the henna actually helps strengthen the hair!

The difference between henna brows and regular dye is the amount of ammonia, the longevity, and the ability to mix and combine different shades to create the perfect stain. Henna stains BOTH the skin and the hair for longer-lasting results including up to 2 weeks on the skin and 6 weeks on the hair. Also, the substance is different from the normal tint compared to the henna. Normal tint has a gel consistency and henna has a fine powder structure.

Who's a good candidate for henna brows

Hair type has a big influence on the long-lasting henna results. The most ideal eyebrow type is the eyebrow that already has a good shape with only some sparse areas that need filling. This saves a lot of time in the morning rather than doing your eyebrows every day.

Dry skin is always much better than oily when it comes to henna as the oilier the skin type, the more difficult it is for the henna to stick. If you have on the  dryer side of skin, it's less likely that the henna will fade from the skin as quickly as skin that is on the oily side

The most suitable skin & hair type is balanced to dry skin with fine hairs are super suitable for henna.

The Ultimate Guide to

How Do I Prepare for the Henna Eyebrow Tint?

The only mandatory prep is doing a patch test to prevent an allergic reaction.

Apart from that, you can do a gentle brow scrub the night before your appointment (if you’re getting a professional service) to remove dead skin cells and ensure better color absorption. Most techs include a quick scrub in the treatment, so it’s not necessary for you to do it in advance, but it will shorten your appointment.

If you do it yourself, use a gentle scrub that won’t irritate your skin.

The Steps

Step 1 - Cleanse & Prep

First step is cleanse, tone and prep the brows. We use a special prep cleaner and toner on the brows to ensure we have a bacteria free area before starting.

Step 2 – Brow Shaping

Your brows are shaped with the hair removal of your choice –, waxing, or tweezing. If your skin isn’t used to waxing, perhaps tweeting is the best option, since it’s the most gentle hair removal method.

Step 3 – Scrub and Cleaning

In order to get an even shading, the skin of the brows needs to be smooth and cleaned of all makeup, skincare product and sebum & oil residues.

A gentle scrub is preformed to remove any deal skin cells and to ensure a smooth surface to allow an even color absorption. The brows are then thoroughly cleansed with a cleanser.

Step 4 – Outlining

The most important step to new henna brows is brow mapping! We map your brows with mapping sting and outline the brows with a white grease pencil to assure shape is achieved perfectly. Once you approve the shape, we begin step 5.

Step 5 – Applying Henna

We mix you Henna, custom for your hair color and skin tone. A customized color can be mixed by combining different shades.

Once the henna is applied onto the brows its processing time. Time depends on the desires depth and will go over all the options at time of appointment. Processing time is between 15 & 30 minutes plus time for ombre effect or fadeout.

Step 6 – Cleaning

Once the desired depth is achieved its time to remove the henna. we saturate 4X4 non woven gauze with a special cleaner and place them on the henna to soften the paste. Once the dried henna is softened it is removed. We condition the skin with SUPERCILIUM henna toner to help henna retention.

How Fast Do Henna Eyebrows Fade?

Henna combines 2 effects – coloring the hairs, and shading the skin underneath.

The shade fades from the skin after about 2 weeks. On oily skin, it may fade faster, since the sebum overproduction “washes it out”.

The brows hairs stay colored for up to 5 weeks.

How Do I Prevent Premature Fading?

To make the best of your henna brow tint and ensure it lasts out as long as possible, follow these rules:

  • Don’t exfoliate the brows area.

  • Don’t wax your brows.

  • Don’t use retinol or any other brightening skincare products in the area.

  • Don’t use oil-based products in the area.

  • Use a gentle face wash.

  • Minimize sunlight exposure.

Are Henna Brows Safe?

YES. Henna is a natural substance and no hydrogen peroxide is used.

The only possible side effect is an allergic reaction to henna. Black henna contains a substance called PPD (paraphenylenediamine) which causes a reaction in few people. It’s often mixed with brown henna for a custom shade, so a patch test must always be done the first time you’re getting a henna brow tint, or if your coming to Face & Body for the first time. 1St time Henna Brow appointment booked online will be for a patch test, unless you are a returning customer.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Apart from the possibility of Henna Sensitivity, (ie, allergic reaction) (which is prevented by a patch test), there are no other side effects to the henna eyebrow tint.

The treatment might irritate sensitive skin slightly and there could be some pinkness / redness to the surrounding skin after the henna is removed. This is normal for most of us. Any irritation (ie, pink or red skin) in most cases will dissipate within a few hours, however in rare cases or sensitive, rosaces skin can take up to 72 hours, however most instances irritation subsides in a few hours.

What to look for in your patch test.

If the skin that had the patch test was administered stays pink or red for a few hours, this is normal unless the patch-test is accompanied by itching or rash like irritation – You may be Henna Sensitive.

Are There Any Contraindications?

The henna brow tint isn’t suitable for you if:

  • you have a reaction to the patch test

  • you take Accutane, or have used in the past year

  • your skin is sunburnt or damaged in another way

  • you have Eczema, Psoriasis or Rosacea in the brow area

  • you’ve had microblading or another brow PMU treatment in the past 8 weeks (the skin needs to heal first)

If you’ve had harsh chemical peels or similar treatments in the past year or so, consult with us and let us assess the state of your skin before the treatment

With this in mind, we thought it was a wonderful idea to create this post and pack it full of must-know brow lamination information.

If you’re interested in brow lamination but aren’t sure if it’s the right service for you, keep reading to learn more about how this innovative technique could elevate your brow game! If your still unsure, book a consultation with us, we are happy to help.

Brow lamination is essentially a perm — or brow relaxer — for your eyebrows. With our safe and effective product SUPERcilium, we can style your brows in a way that allows the hairs to stay up, giving the impression of fuller, thicker brows. There are multiple ways to do this, such as combing upward or sideways or using the length of your brow hair to increase the width of your brows. The ultimate technique will depend on your natural brows and your desired result. By combing the brow hair in the direction you want, it’s possible to cover gaps in your brows, make them appear fuller, and achieve the fluffy brow look.

If any stinging or swelling occurs, keep applying a cold dampened cotton pad, cold compress or cooling spray to soothe. If it persists, seek medical advice and make them aware they should let you (the beautician) know so you can put it in their record.

As a non-invasive, affordable, temporary, and highly impactful brow solution, brow lamination is suitable and safe for almost everyone! No matter whether your brow concern is over plucking, aging, gaps, thinning, or unruliness — brow lamination is an amazingly effective solution to most common brow complaints. Some clients even find that it’s an excellent alternative to microblading! However, it should be noted that for optimal brow lamination results you must have brow hair, ideally throughout the length of your entire eyebrow. Brow lamination cannot cover up major gaps or large patches of missing hair.

The awesome thing about brow lamination is that it can give you the brows you’ve always wanted in under an hour. Not only does it enable you to hide small gaps in your brows, but it also very cleverly gives you the illusion of significant hair growth. Win-win!

You can expect your laminated Brows & Lashes to last up to two months or until the hair sheds, however in some cases lamination can fade out sooner.

To get the most out of your brow lamination service, for the first 24 hours, you should avoid:

  • Wetting or rubbing your eyebrows

  • Applying any cream or oils around the eyebrow area

  • Applying any makeup to your brows

  • Partaking in a steamy swer, sauna, or sweaty activities like hot yoga!

24 hours post treatment for longevity of the Supercilium Brow & Lash Glaze treatment results.

  • - Do not apply make-up or receive any other eye treatments for 24 hours after your treatment.

  • - Avoid rubbing the eyes or brows.

  • - Avoid contact with water, moisture or hot temperatures for 24 hours.

  • - Avoid putting contact lenses back in for 24 hours.

  • - Avoid swimming/sauna for 24 hours.

  • - Comb the brows or lashes upwards using a spoolie.

  • - Sleep on your back for up to 2 days after treatment to prevent the brows or lashes being squashed by the pillow.

Brow lamination could be an excellent alternative to microblading for some clients — especially if you’re looking for a less permanent solution. However, you should note that although brow lamination and microblading both result in beautiful brows, the process is entirely different.

Read about microblading here.

Brow Lamination is a treatment where the brow shape can be changed into the desired position using a soft chemical solution for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. The treatment smooths out the eyebrow hairs while also lifting them giving the illusion of a brow lift. The best part is that the brow lamination treatment tames unruly brows and makes thin brows look more thick and full giving you that fluffy-brow look.

The Supercilium brow lamination process consists of 3 easy steps and includes a Relaxing Solution, Laminate, and a Nourishing Elixir. The treatment works like a perm for the brows giving the brows a full and defined shape.

Step 1: We start with a Relaxing solution and massage onto the brows with a micro brush. We then brush the brows into the desired position and remove after 5-7 minutes.

Step 2: We then apply the Laminate onto the brows with a spoolie and brush the eyebrow hairs in the desired position & remove the laminate after 5-9 minutes and let air-dry.

Step 3: We then apply the Nourishing Elixir. This lotion hydrates the hairs, recovers the structure of the hairs, stimulates hair growth and protects the brow hairs against negative external factors.
